The Toshiba 46SL417U Review

I found the best part about the Toshiba 46SL417U to be the picture quality that comes from this full HD 1080p TV. It has built in ClearFrame technology that delivers the picture at 120Hz for very clear images even during high speed action such as when watching sports or movies. Certainly in my opinion; this is what wide screen TV’s were meant for – to bring the action to you – so having a TV that can handle it is very worthwhile. Surprisingly, it’s among the cheaper sets to appear this year so simply has to be on anyone’s list of potential buys.

The Toshiba 46SL417U also looks great. Not only is it under an inch thick, but it also has a very minimal look that plays up the screen; showing it off as its strongest asset. Additionally, if seen from the side, there’s a nice slither of chrome that adds a very classy touch.

1080p HD and High Quality Image Processing

This set gives you vibrant colours, rich in quality and pleasing blacks. It also comes with Cinespeed, a new processing technology Toshiba have only recently employed. This processes the forage very smoothly and removes annoyances such as motion lag, flickering, the moiré patterns that appear when displaying grid patterns, and improving the mapping of colours. This goes hand in hand with its already outstanding display of 1080p HD, and 120Hz ClearFrame technology to make the Toshiba 46SL417U something special
.
Internet Enabled and Wireless Connectivity

Other pleasing additions include built in Wi-Fi so you can access your home network and you don’t have to buy an expensive add-on. This is most useful if you have a media server, but also allows the TV to connect to a range of services. The ones I used the most are Netflix and Skype, to call relatives. If you don’t have Wi-Fi don’t worry it also has an RJ45 Ethernet Port.

Perfect for gamers

Most users these days have consoles in their home either for kids or themselves. The Toshiba 46SL417U offers a gaming mode that gamers will love. This helps bring out the best look for video games. Those who spending some, or a lot of their time playing video games might as well get the most out of them.

Other Features and Specifications

Quality audio outputs. Audio quality on the built in speakers are passable, but being barely an inch in depth this is unsurprising. Once hooked up to a home cinema system however, this is a device that flourishes.

HDMI port with 1080p upscalling so you can get the most out of gaming, music ad movies and the very best of sound.

Energy saving to help get us closer to sustainability.

Netcast suite, Netflix, Voodoo, YouTube, Cinema Now, Facebook, Twitter. Yahoo Widgets to provide some TV app functionality.

DynaLight Technology which automatically monitors and adjusts the backlight levels for each frame to achieve the optimal contrast and deeper blacks. Makes watching horror movies great with the lights off. Also adjusts to the lighting level in the room. Some people do find this feature a little annoying though.

USB Thumb drive compatible. Add music or show off your photos by copying it to one of these drives and simply plugging it in. Opens up many possibilities.

Lots of connections. 4 HDMI ports, Component A/V, 2 Composite A/V ports, Antenna / Cable Port, PC Input, Digital Audio Output, Analog Audio Output, Ethernet, and two USB ports make this a very adaptable TV that can be hooked up to practically any setup.

Customer Reviews and Scores

Amazon has 9 customer reviews for the Toshiba 46SL417U. The average works out at 4 stars. 8 of the 9 reviews gave it either 5 or 4 stars. One gave it 1 star, however this was mostly due to technical that were subsequently resolved.

By far the biggest criticism that stood out in the reviews was of customer support. This was something a couple of people found to be lacking. Though they were let-down initially, customer support did pull through for them in the end.

That said, it’s clear that if the major fault people can find in the product involve customer service then the product itself is a clear winner and given the price it’s a clear must buy product for anyone wanting a brand new and capable full HD TV.

Conclusion

The hardware that makes up the Toshiba 46SL417U is outstanding, especially given the low price point. It would be hard to find anything equivalent to it at the same price, and many more expensive sets are lacking features such as the integrated Wi-Fi and its impressive image processing. Asides from the technology it’s a very attractive looking set, and lets you get the most out of TV, movies, and more.
